WOMEN EARNING THEIR LIVELIHOOD BY SETTING UP THEIR BUSINESS WITH THE HELP OF CHAITANYA SRAVANTHI AND GOVERNMENT

Chaitanya Sravanthi played a major role in uplifting the downtrodden especially the vulnerable section of the society- women. Founded in 1987 Chaitanya Sravanthi was a result of Dr. Shirin Rehman’s vision of bringing women out of years of exploitation and oppression towards true empowerment. Adopting a holistic approach they are working in the areas of health, education as well income generation programmes.

The success of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in women empowerment has been widely accepted and Chaitanya Sravanthi also embraced this model. It has about 350 SHGs with almost 5500 members and an internal saving of about 80 Lakhs. They were also provided external loans worth 3.5 crores by National Banks and various Government Organizations.

Chaitanya Sravanthi has provided Rs.5000/- as loan to start their business and gradually they started developing their business. By watching this, nationalized banks have provided loan worth Rs. 20,000/- to increase their productivity. This sets as an example for others and now most of the women have got motivated to start some businesses on their own.
