Economic Sustenence & SHGs
Chaitanya Sravanthi believed that empowerment of women can be possible only if women took up income generating works. These opportunities were created for the women using a two-pronged strategy. First, they were given vocational training in activities that suited their temperament, educational background and inherent skills. This was followed up with securing financial assistance through banks and state agencies, so that they become independent economic entities. Dr. Shirin formed around 200 SHGs under aegis of Chaitanya Sravanthi – directly affecting the socio-economic fabric of around 3000 families. She mobilized the government agencies to arrange and impart vocational training in trades like screen printing and book binding, stitching and embroidery, candle making, doll making, noodle making, making of domestic cleaning agents such as phenyl etc. She liaised to arrange financial assistance to the SHGs through Banks, SC & BC Corporations, CMEY & DWACRA Schemes for members to set up income generating businesses.
